Talks on Fashion - Bath in Fashion 2011

Fashion luminary Iain R. Webb will be in conversation with Rosemary Harden, Manager of the Fashion Museum in ‘Candid Catwalk’, sharing insights gleaned from his illustrious years in the industry.  Iain has been fashion editor/director of Blitz, The Evening Standard, The Times and Elle, and contributed to New York Times, The Guardian, Independent, and Vogue. He has styled and designed for pop bands including The Pet Shop Boys, is a consultant at the Fashion Museum in Bath, and a visiting lecturer at Central Saint Martin’s, London College of Fashion and UCA Epsom. His latest book, Postcards From the Edge of the Catwalk, is a personal photographic portfolio spanning three decades that documents the glittering brouhaha surrounding the ready-to-wear and haute couture fashion collections in New York, London, Milan and Paris. A £5.00 ticket to the talk at St Michael’s Church, Wednesday 23rd March, also includes complimentary entrance to the Fashion Museum (valid until 31st May 2011), and a book signing in conjunction with Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights.

Those who love textiles should not miss “24-7 Stitch” at The Loft, Bartlett Street on Thursday 24th March at 5.30pm. Tickets at £7.00 include a glass of wine.  Karen Nicol, an embroidery and mixed media textile artist working in gallery, fashion and interiors will be sharing her expertise. She is currently ‘Designer in Residence’ at Bath Spa University, and has an impressive list of clients ranging from Chanel to the Pope, and the King of Qatar.

Our hot-from-London-fashion-week team, producer John Walford and stylist Rebekah Roy present ‘FASHION SHOWS – The frocks, the fantasies, the facts’ on Thursday 24th March at 11.00 am in the Octagon in Milsom Place (tickets £5.00). John Walford originally worked with Vivienne Westwood and has produced shows for designers such as Stella McCartney and Donna Karan.  He is founder and director of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout, named as London’s leading showcase for fashion innovation, which this year gave over twenty shows at London Fashion Week. Top fashion stylist and editor of Fashion.Music.Style magazine, Rebekah Roy, has an impressive client list including Harvey Nichols, Kate Nash, and Little Boots and she works extensively with cutting-edge designers like William Tempest, Stefan Orschel and Alice Palmer as well as styling shows at London Fashion Week.

Watch Julian Roberts demonstrate his revolutionary pattern cutting method ‘Subtraction Cutting’ live, a technique that focuses on the hollow spaces between the  garment and the body. This innovative pattern cutting technique encourages a new way of looking at cutting garments for the body. Julian Roberts is a well respected designer who has shown 13 collections at London Fashion Week.  He invented subtraction cutting which he has demonstrated all over the world.  It is an approach to garment pattern cutting whereby the patterns cut do not represent the garments outward shape, but rather the negative space within the garment that make them hollow. Priced at £10, this talk takes place Sunday 27th March at 11.00 – 1230 in the Assembly Rooms.
