Shrove Tuesday should be a National Holiday! How do I start a petition?
The Shrove Tuesday tradition in Sweden is the wonderful “Semla”, a big wheat bun with a lid cut off it, filled with marzipan and whipped cream. I’ve been eating semlas for weeks already, some clever patisseries here in Sweden realised how popular they are and these days you can buy them from early January onwards. Today I managed to get my hands on some medium sized semlas on the way to work and I was able to enjoy a coffee and a “semla” with my very nice colleagues at 10.30 this morning. Yummy! My colleague A is even considering having semla as her wedding cake. No? I totally get it!

Having scheduled a client presentation this afternoon I had to eat my lunch at 12.00, and after the semla you can imagine I was full when I left the office. To top it all off, the client also offered me a semla. Man, by the time I came home I was full, but the day wasn’t over yet…
In Ireland the traditional food on Shrove Tuesday are pancakes, in fact the day is known as Pancake Tuesday. Guess what we had for dinner! Mark and I enjoyed a bowl of homemade green cabbage soup with an boiled egg with pancakes for afters, Pixie just had pancakes.
Mark had gotten us some fresh fruit and whipped cream for our pancakes, Pixie wanted Ketchup. Well, she ate it all, I was happy.
