This morning has been like a trip back in time, back to a time when I was young, child free and spent my mornings on the sofa with a Sunday paper and some trashy TV-show on the telly having partied hard the night before.
In the early noughties Mark and I had just made the move to Foxrock, fleeing the city and our apartment in Mespil Estate Dublin 4, and settled in our lovely home in Carrickmines Wood. We spent most of our Saturdays in pubs like Jack O’Rourkes or bars like Tonic in Blackrock, usually followed by a visit to Dublin clubs like Lillies Bordello or Renards, or if we were lucky, an amazing dinner with the Demery’s on Proby Place. June Demery, the ultimate chef maravillosa, always made some amazing meals and we used to gather round the table like members of the family. Thank you for that June, Manolo and the girls! We used to get home quite late, if we hadn’t decided to stay the night in Blackrock, and by the time we came home /woke up on the Sunday all we could ever manage was some well deserved chill time on the sofa.
Last night we enjoyed a lovely evening with our friends Cecile and Henrik, they had invited us to their home on Sveavägen to flavour some amazing Swedish food, a reindeer stew and to meet some friends of theirs who have recently relocated to Stockholm from Warsaw.
We didn’t make it home until after 1.oo so safe to say it’s been lovely to have a lie-in this morning. Right now I am on the sofa enjoying the Eastenders Omnibus with a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake (made by the lovely K), we didn’t manage to eat it all last night so instead I am having it now.
In an hour or so I will head out to my parents to collect Pixie who has spent the night, but first I am going to enjoy a couple of episodes of Sex and the City and then go for a run, to completely fill the morning with nostalgia.
