An Ode to Mod!

We’ve had a lovely day today, a day off work and pre-school thanks to the Christian Holiday, Ascension Day, when Jesus is meant have have ascended to Heaven. Thanks Jesus!

Instead of having a day full of “must do this” and “must hurry to get there on time” we completely chillaxed. The morning was spent at home where managed to have a lie-in, followed by some morning children’s TV, washing of clothes, and a wonderful breakfast. I even managed to get away for a session of Bikram Yoga at my new favourite place Du Calme on Birkagatan here in Vasastan.

I am really trying to get there twice a week but it’ proving difficult, so far I have only managed once a week this month. But this weekend it will all change, I am going again on Saturday afternoon and then on Monday morning. Bikram Yoga really is mind altering for me, I do not only get a great work out, my head feels fantastic afterwards. Lock the knees!

After lunch we made a picnic and headed out on our bikes, me and Mark haven’t managed to get out cycling much in the past few years, but this is the summer when this will all change. I put Pixie in her seat and off we went. We headed towards Solna and Råsunda to have another look at the neighbourhoods, to play in a park and to have a picnic. Pixie and I sported our cool Bell helmets, matching All Stars and parkas, she is my mini-me after all. When she played around in Skytteholmsparken in Solna she truly looked like a little Mod.

On the way back home we stopped at Mackers for an ice-cream, yum!

Thank you Crumlin, Love Mia!

Thank you Crumlin, Love Mia.

Thank you Crumlin, love Mia! is an initiative started by 11-year old Mia Keavney from Dublin.  On Friday 25th May 2012, in the Convention Centre, Mia and the organising committee, are hosting the “Thank you Crumlin – love Mia” event for over 2,000 guests. The evening will feature ten top Irish Fashion Designers who will each show case two of MIA’s personal designs as well as a limited selection for their own creations.

(Mia has even had her own designer label created for the evening: MIAMOO)

Celebrity MC Lisa Cannon from XPOSÉ will be hosting the evening. However, the evening is not all about fashion.  It will be an evening filled with entertainment from some of Ireland’s top entertainers as well as loads of fun fundraising activities. The primary aim of the evening is to help MIA raise as much money as possible for the refurbishment of Crumlin Children Hospital’s Orthopaedic Unit while hosting a very enjoyable evening for those who buy a ticket

You can read her own words abut this project below…

My name is Mia Keaveney and I am 11 years old.

I was born in Hunan province in China. I came to live with my Irish family in March of 2002.  I live with dad Clem, my mom Sally, my sister Meghan, my two brothers Jordan and Brett and my dog Harry.   I’m currently in 5th class at school.

When I was tiny in China, I had an accident where I was very badly burned.  I needed a lot of treatment and  operations so I have been going to Crumlin Children’s Hospital ever since I arrived in Ireland.

Thanks to Crumlin, and all the great doctors and nurses, I am now so much better and I am still getting treatment for my leg and foot.  Next April it will be 10 years since I started to go to Crumlin.

I love to draw, but I really really love to draw and sketch fashion designs.   One day I gave some of my designs to my friend Bernie and she loved them so much that she felt they should be seen by one of the best designers in the world; John Rocha.   After he saw my drawings he invited me to come and meet him -I couldn’t believe it.  It was a great experience and he gave me great encouragement and inspiration.

I have now decided to use my drawings to do something positive, so I am planning a big fashion show event in May to support Crumlin Children’s Hospital and to say…THANK YOU CRUMLIN- LOVE MIA

I have to share a secret…

I have to share a secret…

There’s this wonderful place in Montmartre where they make and sell the most amazing babies’ and children’s clothes I have ever seen. If you love that  French look, crisp dresses in flowery patterns and classic chinos in somber shades, scarves and parkas, matched with white, dark blue and some stripes on the side, this shop is for you.

Alice a Paris, sell clothes for babies from 1 month old to kids aged 10, affordable and good quality. I wish all my daughter’s clothes came from there.

Check ‘em out!   Here’s the dress my mum and dad bought Pixie when they were last in Paris.

I need to get something off my chest

My endevours to stay fashionable and to blog regularly has in the past few weeks been replaced by working all hours and nursing a cold that hasn’t seemed to want to disappear. I am still very tired and struggle to find the time to get anything done apart from going to work and spending time with the family. Every night I fall into bed and I’m asleep before my head hits the pillow. That’s not all, my back has been out for nearly two weeks now and I struggle every morning that I try to get out of bed. To say the least I have been miserable.

I think that’s all for now, and THANK YOU I needed to get that off my chest.

A Tummy Bug and An Evening for Art …

I have been sick all week. I was hit by a tummy bug during the night between Monday and  Tuesday which made sure I wasn’t able to get out of bed all day Tuesday. I slept  and drank some tea, slept again and had some more tea… pretty much all I did that day.

Silly me, I thought I was better on Wednesday and headed down to Gothenburg for a meeting, as I hardly ate during the day I thought I was fine so that evening I went out to an event with The American Club, An Evening for Art, at Sven-Harry’s spectacular new art museum overlooking Vasaparken. Although I was feeling weak I had a bite to eat and a drink but my body wasn’t ready for real food. The next day I was out of action again and it’s actually not until now that I feel normal.

The event on Wednesday proved fruitful though, I met a very interesting contact for work who has promised to meet up in the near future. I love when stuff like that happens. It shows you that you should always be prepared to network and talk work. You never know who you’re going to meet.

So my outfit this week has been quite casual to say the least, sweat pants and fleeces, duvet and pillow, in bed and on the sofa. Let’s hope next week is better! Well, Thursday night we have our Awards Ceremony to celebrate Sweden’s Best Workplaces, can’t wait for that.

Tummy Bug and Sweat pants...

Summer dress from Scotch & Soda

I’ve been shopping the sales today, a Nicole Farhi dress for me and a Scotch & Soda dress for my little girl.  Scotch & Soda have the most comfortable clothes I have worn in a long time and it wasn’t until recently that I found out they have children’s clothes. There’s this childrens clothing website called  www.oiidesign.se where they have the allthe coolest children labels, and Scotch & Soda is one of them. This beautiful dress was reduced by 50% to 495 kr.

I can’t wait for the warmer weather and I know Pixie Boo will be so happy in this outfit.

Overall a VERY good Saturday!

Saturday is a day of the week that always comes with an element of pressure to perform, perform as a good parent and fun mum. We usually start the day off at the Ballet Academy at Birgerjarlsgatan with the “Dance n’ Play” (Danslek) session and Miss Margit. If everything goes according to plan we have a “fika” afterwards  with Pixie’s best friend from pre-school and her mummy. (Fika means having a coffee).

After ballet we headed down to the auction house in Frihamnen to have a look around. I realised quickly that both Erin and I were wearing the wrong clothes. What had started out as a sunny and warm “spring is in the air” kind of day turned into a cold, rainy and windy February day. I was wearing a By Malene Birger dress with black tights and my Blundstones and my cardigan and jacket weren’t warm enough to keep me warm.

Pixie nearly fell asleep on the bus back to Vasastan, Mark tickled the palm of her hand for ages and she nearly drifted away. (but no such luck). Instead we ended up in one of my favourite places to have coffee, Ritorno. Our friend Michael came along with his daughter Alice. Pixie and Alice had such a ball together, they shared a plate of pancakes, had juice and pastries and played for ages.

Michael and Alice agreed to join us for dinner so we headed back to our place, but not before I headed in to ETC on Odengatan to check out the sale.

Pixie and Alice had a fantastic time together this evening, they played and played and played, watched a barbie movie, had dinner and crisps and sweets (in that order). When Alice left Pixie was so upset, she was sooo tired and we settled in bed quite quickly. She fell asleep whispering “Alice”.

Overall a VERY good Saturday!
